Stone County was created April 21, 1873 to become the 74th county in Arkansas. It was formed from parts of Izard, Independence, Searcy and Van Buren and was named for the rugged rock formations in the area. The county seat, Mountain View, was incorporated in 1890 and we have a population of approximately 12,000 residents. Stone County's landscape is the rugged Ozark Mountains, which includes the Ozark National Forest and the Blanchard Springs Caverns.

Stone County is also home to the Ozark Folk Center, a unique 637-acre site state park with entertainment and cultural history complex devoted to preserving traditional Ozark music and heritage. Summertime in the Ozarks is breathtaking and includes the Arkansas Folk Festival, showcasing local music and crafts. During the holidays, we are home to the annual Ozark Christmas celebration in which the entire town participates in the lighting of our community tree in the town square.

Come visit Stone County and enjoy the tradition of the Ozarks.
